When you’re about to tackle a steep ascent, it’s very important to chose the right gear. Select too high a gear and there’s a good chance your vehicle will stall. In this example, we reverse the vehicle under full control to a reasonably level section half-way up the ascent, and then show how the right technique means you can move away smoothly – without touching the handbrake at all. Keep your foot on the brake, then come up to the bite point on the clutch and you’ll hear the engine revs drop. Release the break, apply some extra gas, and you’re away.
