When faced with ruts, you can either follow them or straddle them by driving along the ridges between them. Straddling could be the best option if the ruts are deeper than the ground clearance of your vehicle. If you find yourself dropping in, resist the temptation to dip the clutch and brake. Instead, apply more power by revving the throttle about once every second. The only way to deal with long, deep ruts is to hit them at speed and hope the vehicle’s momentum will get you to the other side.
